Chuck Noll prepares for first season as Steelers head coach

Chuck Noll took over as the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach before the start of the 1969 season.

The franchise needed a good leader, coming off a 2-11-1 season in 1968.

Pittsburgh got a good leader.

Former WJAC sports director Bill Wilson interviewed Noll, before his first Steelers training camp.

Noll said he would demand mental and physical toughness.

His style created a winning culture.

The Steelers won four Super Bowls (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979) with Noll as the head coach. He spent 23 seasons in Pittsburgh, compiling a 209-156-1 record. Noll is now a member of the National Football League Hall of Fame.
