Centre Co. man accused of illegally shooting bear on his property waives hearing
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man accused by the Pennsylvania Game Commission of illegally shooting a bear with a pistol appeared in court Wednesday morning where he waived his preliminary hearing.
A state game warden says 87-year-old Sheldon Sharpless admitted to shooting the bear in his back yard in March.
Sharpless reportedly said he shot the animal because it “destroyed his bird feeders."
Authorities say the bear had to be put down.
Sharpless faces one charge of unlawful killing or taking of big game during closed season and one charge of hunting big game with an unlawful device.
