PITTSBURGH (AP) — After 13 years in the minor leagues, Drew Maggi was greeted with a standing ovation when he made his major league debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.
The 33-year-old, who played 1,154 games in the minors, pinch hit for five-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen in the eighth inning with the Pirates ahead by seven runs. Maggi saw four pitches from Alex Vesia, striking out on a slider, in an at-bat that included a pitch-clock violation by the rookie batter.

HARRISBURG, Pa (AP) — Faculty union officials say more than 80 tenured and tenure-track faculty members at a western Pennsylvania university have been told they may lose their jobs at the end of the 2020-21 academic year, part of more than 100 possible job cuts at five universities in the commonwealth. The victim in Saturday's fatal crash in Paint Township has been identified, state police said.
According to a press release, Aubrey Horner, 37, was riding in the backseat of the convertible traveling south on Horn Road just before 10 a.m.
State police said the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit an embankment.
The press release states that Horner and a front seat passenger were not wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.
ALBANY, N.Y. — Nicholas Higgins, of Albany, was sentenced to 23 years to life in state prison on Wednesday, the Albany County District Attorney's Office said.
The 30-year-old was convicted of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

(AP) — Authorities say an argument over a basketball foul that started inside a suburban Philadelphia fitness center ended when one man shot and killed the other outside in self-defense. Investigators say the shooter was justified in pulling a 9 mm Glock firearm from his backpack as he left the gym and killing 28-year-old Alan Womack. They say Womack had lain in wait with a loaded 9 mm handgun, and fired two shots that hit nearby parked cars as he was struck.
