FRIANT, Calif. (KMPH) — A father and daughter were rescued from the San Joaquin River Sunday after their kayaks got stuck on debris.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. north of Lost Lake on North Fork and Friant Road.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says they used their boat to get the man off the middle island he was stuck at and used rescue swimmers to help save the daughter in the river.

WASHINGTON (TND) — Louisiana is close to becoming the first state to mandate the display of the Ten Commandments in schools and universities. If the governor signs the proposed bill into law, any publicly funded educational institution would be required to prominently display the Ten Commandments on a poster or framed document. The bill specifies that the display must be at least 11 by 14 inches, with the text being the central focus, printed in a large, easily readable font.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — More details have been released regarding a State College officer-involved shooting that left one man dead.
According to a police search warrant obtained by 6 News, on Tuesday, a father who lives out of town was worried about his son, 29-year-old Osaze Osagie, who he told police had been acting erratically for a couple of weeks and could possibly be off his medication.
The father showed police text messages that showed Osagie made threats to himself and others, the warrant says.

Law enforcement officials told The Dallas Morning News that Rice was suspected of assaulting a person at a downtown nightclub early Monday, and that the person went to a hospital after the encounter.

Rep. Foxx wary of 'murky' Harvard decision to limit official statements: 'Raises concerns'

WASHINGTON (TND) — Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., in a statement to The National Desk (TND) Friday said she is concerned by Harvard University’s decision to limit the issues it speaks out on.
Harvard announced Tuesday it will no longer comment on “issues outside its core function,” citing a desire to not become “a government.” The decision follows a report by two university working groups which examined the impact of statements by Harvard and other universities.
Respiratory illness cases like Covid and the flu are on the rise across the state.
6 News spoke with a local RN who says this influx of viruses is typical for this time of the year.
“We are definitely seeing viruses, were seeing respiratory infections, flu, covid, a whole variety of illnesses,” said Colleen Stewart-Tretter, an RN at Highlands Health Clinic.
Stewart-Tretter says the increase of respiratory illnesses isn't just a health concern locally, but across the state of Pennsylvania.
