MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WWMT) — Police in Michigan rescued more than 20 canines from an alleged dog fighting ring on Friday. After investigating four residences in Muskegon Heights and one in Norton Shores, officers from the Muskegon Heights Police Department rescued 22 dogs and recovered one that was deceased, authorities said in a news release. Police arrested four people, three of which are charged with dog fighting and one had a warrant for their arrest, according to MHPD.
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Spring Mills man is behind bars following an investigation into allegations that he repeatedly sexually abused a young girl over a five-year period. According to the affidavit, police were first contacted in January of 2023, by the victim's mother, after the victim reportedly disclosed that she had been repeatedly abused by 35-year-old Vladimir Slavskiy. Police say the victim told investigators that the alleged abuse began in 2017, when she was approximately 7 or 8 years old.
One of the country's most well-known toy store chains is closing its doors. Toys R Us is exploring a plan to liquidate the company, closing hundreds of stores and laying off some 30,000 people. The retailer announced Wednesday that it filed to liquidate and close all its 735 stores nationwide. (TCS) — In Illinois, it is not illegal for an educator or staff member to have a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student, but some Republican lawmakers want to change that. State Rep. Amy Elik, R-Alton, says school staff who sexually abuse 18-year-old students should face charges so she has filed House Bill 4241 in Springfield. “This bill protects students ages 18 and older in high school by creating the offense of abuse of authority by an educator or authority figure,” said Elik.
MEYERSDALE, Pa. (WJAC) — Saturday was the fifth annual Trucks for Smiles event, hosted at the fairgrounds in Meyersdale. There were semitrailers, pickup trucks and even ambulances lining up at the Somerset Fairgrounds to participate in the Trucks for Smiles convoy. The event started as a one-time event, but has now grown due to its success. There were raffles, a live auction, food and lots of activities for kids, but what's most exciting about the day is the fact that 100 percent of the proceeds is donated to Make-A-Wish so kids have an opportunity to get their wish granted.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Philadelphia homicide suspect was arrested in Johnstown Tuesday. District Attorney Greg Neugebauer says multiple law enforcement agencies raided a home, located along the 100 block of Joseph Ave., where they reportedly found 19-year-old Arnold Miller Jr. Officials say Miller was wanted out of Philadelphia on homicide and other related charges. During a search of the home, authorities say police seized two firearms, 64 suspected fentanyl pills, crack cocaine, hallucinogenic mushrooms, marijuana, ecstasy pills and other drug paraphernalia.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas Supreme Court on Friday rejected a challenge to one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the U.S. following a lawsuit by women who had serious pregnancy complications. The ruling from the court, whose nine justices are all elected Republicans, is the latest decision to uphold Texas’ abortion ban, which critics say does not offer enough clarity over when exceptions are allowed.
