SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — A funeral procession took place Monday afternoon for a local business owner who died in a Somerset County crash Thursday. Pat Herring was the owner of Herring Motor. His casket was placed on the back of one of his tow trucks. Dozens of semitrucks followed. State police in Somerset say Herring died Thursday when he crashed while driving a tow truck on Route 31 near Mount Zion Road in Jefferson Township.
The Humane Society of Cambria County has taken in over one thousand animals in the past year alone, according to officials. They say 78 animals were recently accepted over just a two-day period in May. “Every room in this building is full to the brim with animals that we can safely occupy. The floor space is covered, we have animals in every single roomMy office has multiple animals, our garage is now full of animals, they’re everywhere they can safely be contained,” says Humane Officer Kinlee Whited.

According to online reservations, a room at the Cobblestone Inn & Suits in Punxsutawney will cost nearly $400 on Wednesday and Thursday, compared with normally costing around $115. A trip to a gas station bathroom sent a Virginia man to the hospital on after he said he got pricked by a used needle. The first thing I thought of was that I'm going to end up with a disease. I was scared to death because of the possibility of what the person may have had," said Marvin Barnett, of Lynchburg.What started as a normal morning pitstop for Barnett, ended in an hours-long stay at the hospital.
ARMSTRONG CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to a release from the Armstrong County coroner's office, a Punxsutawney man was found dead in the Allegheny River on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say 38-year-old Nathan Paul Lauer had been missing since last Saturday. Lauer was pronounced dead at the scene by Armstrong County coroner Brian Myers, and an autopsy is pending. State police and the coroner's office are still investigating the incident, the release notes.
