MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WJAR) — Several dogs the were recently rescued from a hoarding situation in a Rhode Island home have not survived. The dogs captured the hearts of people across the state when they were rescued from a Pawtucket house last month. While the majority are now doing well, sadly, some couldn't be saved. The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) said about seven of the dogs have died across the various shelters helping them recover.
Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — A massive gingerbread village just inside the Omni Bedford Springs Resort isn't meant for eating, just enjoying. The resort's pastry chef was challenged to outdo the house he made last year, and he did just that with a Christmas wonderland. The full display is 34 feet wide and 12 feet tall. Forty-five students at the Bedford County Technical Center built the framework. He and his staff then went to work adding the 6,800 bricks made from 240 pounds of gingerbread dough, 60 pounds of royal icing, 40 pounds of marshmallow, 360 chocolate bars, 100 York peppermint patties and 1,400 peppermints.
Sayre, Bradford Co. (WOLF) — Local students are using their artistic talents to bring a smile to hospital patients while they have their meals. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has teamed up with local Athens Area School District and Towanda Area School District . Students grades K-8 designed holiday-themed artwork that will appear on patient meal trays throughout 2021. Philadelphia, PA (CNN) — A man on death row in Pennsylvania is about to get his first taste of freedom in 30 years. The district attorney dropped all charges against Daniel Gwynn, citing bad and corrupt police work in his case. Gwynn was accused of starting a fire at an abandoned building in west Philadelphia that killed Marsha Smith. According to the DA, the prosecution in Gwynn’s case relied on witness testimony, who told police that he had started the fire.
2ND UPDATE |Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — A 20-year-old Punxsutawney man has been charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend in Jefferson County. State police have charged Dakota Greeley with criminal homicide, murder and terroristic threats. According to a probable-cause affidavit, Greeley shot and killed Trisha Renee Cole Thursday morning on Coyote Drive in Clover Township. At about 10:25 a.m. Thursday, police reportedly found Greeley near Coyote Drive where he fired two shots from his rifle, according to the affidavit.
CLEARFIELD CO., Pa. (WJAC) — A Clearfield County cemetery honored United States veterans today by planting the stars and stripes in front of veterans' graves. About 50 volunteers came out to Styers Cemetery to plant around 1,200 U.S. flags. Veterans Affairs Director for Clearfield County, Betina Nicklas, told 6 News on Saturday the cemetery recently came under new ownership. She said the former owner "was unfamiliar" with Memorial Day traditions, adding they were "
Two Westmoreland County individuals are facing homicide charges after their child passed away due to suspected abuse earlier this year, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's office. According to a press release, Landon Maloberti, 5, was taken to AHN Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital after becoming unconscious on January 30. The district attorney states that Landon was then transported to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh before being pronounced dead on February 7.

Lorraine Bay had decades of experience as a United Airlines flight attendant, but September 11, 2001 would be the last day she’d take a flight.
FRIDAY EVENING UPDATE |Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of Friday morning's shooting in Johnstown as 19-year-old Emerald Nugent Jr. of Hornerstown. Lees says Nugent died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death has been ruled a homicide. More information is expected to be released next week as the investigation unfolds.
