HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania State Police is no longer subjecting recruits to lie-detector tests, saying the agency has lost good job applicants because the tests added time to the hiring process.
The state police said Thursday its review of why some applicants were taking other jobs found the polygraphs contributed to the problem by causing unnecessary delays.
The decision was first reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, which says the troopers' union is criticizing the decision.

Luzerne County, Pennsylvania — A school bus carrying nearly 50 children collided with a tow truck in Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County Wednesday.
Officials say the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on Route 115 as the bus was making its way to Bear Creek Community Charter School.
Pennsylvania state police said the driver of the tow truck is believed to have suffered a medical issue while driving, causing them to cross over the road and strike the bus.

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) — A 4-year-old girl died after she and four others inside a Texas home were shot in a possible targeted shooting. The shooting happened in a San Antonio neighborhood in the 6700 block of Windsor Hollow Drive Wednesday. Following the shooting, five people that were inside the home were hospitalized in critical condition - three of the victims were children, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. The 4-year-old girl who died was the youngest victim.
