Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Fire officials in Blair County say multiple crews were called to battle a blaze at a Hollidaysburg residence late Sunday night. Authorities say crews from Geeseytown, Phoenix and Duncansville Fire Departments spent approximately three hours extinguishing the flames at the residence located along Axelle Street. Officials say the fire began in the garage of the home and quickly spread to the attic. Fire authorities say multiple pets were rescued from the blaze and the family was able to escape unharmed.

UPDATE:Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — State Police have identified the man killed when a garbage truck backed into a tree on Wednesday. Investigators say Nathan Kerstetter, 38, of Milesburg, was killed when he was reportedly struck by an overhanging tree near a driveway in Port Matilda Borough. Centre County coroner Scott Sayers says Kerstetter suffered blunt force trauma to the head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Johnstown-Cambria County Airport Authority confirmed they are searching for a new airliner as regional airports across the U.S. were recently notified by SkyWest Airlines that they will be terminating their Essential Air Service contracts. The Airport Authority said in a release sent to 6 News Wednesday that the search is already underway to provide a new carrier to the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. SkyWest signed a contract that began in December 2020 and was to last until 2023 to provide services through the federal subsidy program for United Airlines flights to Washington Dulles International Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
LANTANA, Fla. (WPEC) — A school in Florida has found an interesting way of keeping students from using their cell phones during the day. Palm Beach Maritime Academy Secondary Campus believes they are the first school in the county to do something like this. The school year is almost over, and students will soon start their summer break. But a few weeks ago, the school launched a big change involving students in grades 6 through 12 and their cell phones.
JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown Housing Authority has decided to stop accepting new applications to the Housing Choice Voucher Program after the average time spent on the waiting list soared to as long as 14 months. More than a thousand people currently on the waiting list will keep their spot, but no one new will be able to apply for an unspecified amount of time. The Section 8 program, different from public housing like Solomon or Oakhurst Homes, allows very low income families to apply for a voucher that they can apply to their rent with any landlord approved by the housing authority.
